Whether that be China in founding Confucius Institutes to spread Chinese language in culture, or France funding the Alliance Française, encouraging French acquisition abroad. These programs are all examples of a government developing cultural awareness internationally. These networks become essential in diplomatic exchanges and influence.

Learning a language goes beyond just a means to communicate. It’s also a way to view the world through a different lens. You gain access to different ideals and values, fostering a diverse worldview and absorbing the teachings of the nations that speak that language. In this regard, linguistic acquisition is also a form of soft power. It’s constantly shifting and changing the ways in which we view certain nations.

However, the core goal of the global language race is to expand the languages we use during international discussions. The countries that are able to engage with this aim, are able to increase their worldwide influence, gaining strategic benefits during diplomatic exchanges.
