This is something I struggled with a lot during my first MUN conferences. However, once you get the formula down it’s super easy.
Firstly, at the beginning of a conference you ALWAYS go and talk to the other delegates around you. It doesn’t matter if everyone is sitting. Go talk. My go-to questions are usually, “what topic are you leaning towards?” and “what school do you go to?” Then I ask some personal questions based on that. Try and talk to each person for about 5 minutes.
Now, to find the perfect second in command you should look for someone who speaks well. For example, I can typically tell whether someone is a good del based on how they answer my questions. If they sound meek and not confident then they won’t be a good second in command but if they’re TOO confident then they also won’t be good. You need to find someone who is in the middle of meek and over confident.
I look for someone who answers my questions well but still lets me guide the conversation. Then I say “let’s sit next to each other!” and they always agree.
After this you have to ask them where they think a good meeting place for a bloc would be. I mentioned this in a previous post but I say this so they think they’re in control (I’m in control acc). Then I say “lets gather people to meet there then.”
Now you’ve got the PERFECT second in command.
But keep in mind if you’re second in command is “too good” or “too bad” you can always switch. When you build your bloc invite someone else who’s powerful or less powerful (depending on your situation) to join the “leaders.”
Then I just kick out the old second in command somewhat. BE CAREFUL when you do this though. You might get a MUN reputation as a snake. This stays with you. I’ll cover snakes in a later post. Bye, thanks for reading my blog today!
