I’ve attended NAIMUN twice in the past and it’s a decent conference. It’s definitely not the best that I’ve been to ad considering the amount of money I paid to be there (100+) I was expecting a lot more.

My biggest complaint is that the chairs don’t know parli pro. I asked people in different committees and they agreed that the chairs were underprepared. They didn’t know the terminology nor the order we should’ve debated in. For example, when we opened the speaker’s list the chairs started calling half the room (of 100+ people) to be added to the speaker’s list. This took an insane amount of time. Then we got through 10 of those people before they took motions for a moderated caucus. Genuinely, I did not know what they were doing. Typically, we go down the speaker’s list for the first part of debate and then once delegates think they’ve spoken enough, we vote on which topic we want to do.

Not only this, but if you’re sitting in the back of the room the chairs DON’T CALL ON YOU. I swear Ireland got to speak at least 2 times before they even glanced my way. The amount of inquiry points I had to make got tiring. The chairs were so confused and seriously needed better training.

Now for awards…..

I know this will probably seem egotistical but I WAS ROBBED. I got a verbal but definitely deserved an honorable. The person in my bloc who got the honorable was horrible. Everyone hated them and the only reason they had a spot in presentations OR in Q and A was because I allowed it. I led the bloc, named the bloc, and made the most speeches (all of which we FIRE). I do admit I could have done better in the later days but they were not any better than me. UGH. I get heated whenever I think about this.

But I wasn’t the only one robbed. The person who won best DID NOT deserve it. The other delegation who was actually leading the bloc should have gotten it. All in all NAIMUN awards are so messed up. I heard a rumor that they use a rating system for speeches but let’s be for real….

SO ANNOYING to say the least. I’m going back next year but I’d definitely prefer going to HMUN or ILMUNC instead. If you’re traveling from far this conference is definitely not worth it.

Bro also EVERY TIME I go to NAIMUN I get something stolen. Last time my brand new Uggs were gone. Someone from my school delegation said they saw someone take it from under the table where I left them. IDK WHY SOMEONE WOULD STEAL MY SHOES WITH MY ENTIRE SCHOOL DELEGATION IN FRONT OF THEM. But whatever (I’m still mad). Then the time before this I got my makeup bag stolen.
